In collaboration with Universitas Esa Unggul, UI Greenmetric held an Instagram Live Discussion themed ‘Implementing Circular Economy: Strategies for Sustainable Growth of University’ will be held on Thursday, 14 November 2024, at 15:00 to 16:30 WIB. UI Greenmetric Discussion Focus: Circular Economy and Universities
This discussion aims to address how circular economy principles can be applied in the university context to foster sustainable growth.
Circular economy is an economic model that prioritises waste reduction, resource reuse, and recycling of products and materials, all of which focus on environmental sustainability.
This concept is increasingly relevant in the current era, where universities as educational institutions have an important role in supporting sustainable development goals (SDGs).
Through this discussion, participants are expected to gain insights on practical steps that universities can take to integrate circular economy in various aspects of its operations, from resource management to waste management policies.
Speakers
This discussion will present three main speakers who are competent in their fields:
Prof. Muhammad Handry Imansyah, MAM, Ph.D. – Chief Executive of SDGs Centre Universitas Lambung Mangkurat
Prof. Handry Imansyah will discuss how the circular economy can be a key driver in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on campus, as well as the role of universities in educating future generations about sustainability.
Prof. Dr. H. Fatah Sulaiman, S.T., M.T. – Rector of Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University
As Rector, Prof. Fatah Sulaiman will share his experiences and strategies that have been implemented in his campus in realising a greener and environmentally friendly university, as well as the role of leadership in creating change.
Dr Abdurrahman, SKM, MM – Lecturer at Faculty of Economics and Business, Esa Unggul University
Dr Abdurrahman will discuss the economic and business aspects of the circular economy, and how this concept can be used to create innovations that support sustainable development in higher education.
Purpose and Expectation of UI Greenmetric Discussion
This discussion aims to provide a deeper understanding of the importance of circular economy implementation in higher education, as well as how these strategies can be applied at the university level to support environmental sustainability.
It is hoped that this discussion can also open up opportunities for other universities to adopt circular economy principles in their policies and practices, strengthen campus contributions to the achievement of SDGs, and create a greener academic environment.
