Esaunggul.ac.id, The Faculty of Psychology of Universitas Esa Unggul once again held an International Guest Lecturer for Students with the theme of Art Therapy. The event, which took place on 11 December 2024, at 13.00 to 15.00 WIB in room 207 of the Jakarta Campus, presented two expert speakers in the field of art therapy, namely Prof. Lim Ji Hyang, Chief of Art Psychological Counselling Daegu Cyber University, and Mikaela Berliyana Alitani, S.Psi., M.Psi., Psychologist and Lecturer at the Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Esa Unggul, who also acted as moderator.
This public lecture aims to introduce and explore the concept of Art Therapy – a psychotherapeutic approach that combines art with psychology to help individuals overcome emotional and mental problems. In this event, there were three main topics discussed by Prof Lim Ji Hyang which became the core of this public lecture:
What is Art Therapy?
Prof Lim opened the lecture with a basic explanation of Art Therapy, which is a therapeutic method that uses various art media as a means for self-expression and emotional recovery. Art Therapy is believed to help individuals express feelings that are difficult to explain in words and provide a space for mental recovery.
Method of Application
The speaker then went on to discuss the application of Art Therapy on various individuals, ranging from children, teenagers, to adults. Prof Lim explained how this therapy can be tailored to the needs and conditions of each individual, as well as the positive impact it can have in helping to overcome anxiety, trauma, and various other emotional disorders.
Creating a Sense of Happiness
In the last session, Prof Lim and Mikaela discussed how Art Therapy can help one create happiness and psychological well-being. After the presentation, students of Faculty of Psychology Universitas Esa Unggul revealed that by expressing themselves through art, individuals can achieve inner peace, reduce stress, and improve overall quality of life.
After the presentation, students of Faculty of Psychology Universitas Esa Unggul were given the opportunity to ask questions directly to Prof Lim Ji Hyang. The questions covered a wide range of issues, from specific techniques in Art Therapy to how art therapy can be applied in an educational or clinical context in Indonesia.

The event received a warm welcome from the students, who were enthusiastic to learn more about the application of Art Therapy in psychology practice. In addition to providing new insights into the world of therapy, this public lecture also enriched students’ knowledge about alternative approaches in helping individuals overcome their psychological problems.
