The Faculty of Design and Creative Industries of Esa Unggul University once again showed its commitment in supporting the world of early childhood education through a Community Service (PKM) activity entitled “Optimizing Classroom Walls to Increase Early Childhood Creativity.” This activity was held at PAUD Nusa Indah, Duri Kepa, West Jakarta, and involved a synergy between lecturers, students, teachers, and parents.
Led by Adisti Ananda Yusuff, S.Ds, M.Ds, as a lecturer at the Faculty of Creative Industry Design (FDIK) Esa Unggul as well as the chief executive, this activity aims to create a fun and educational learning atmosphere for children through a creative design approach in the classroom. “This activity is expected to increase children’s creativity and motivation to learn through a more attractive classroom atmosphere,” said Adisti.
In its implementation, the PKM team created educational murals on the classroom walls with various interesting and relevant themes, such as space, friendship, and nutrition and growth. These themes were carefully selected to suit the cognitive and imaginative development stages of early childhood.
Beyond the murals, the team also created ergonomic and space-saving storage shelves, functionally designed to support classroom tidiness while making it easier for children to access their learning tools.
The PKM activity, which began in early June 2025, received a warm welcome from the school and parents. The teachers said that the children seemed more enthusiastic in learning since the classroom atmosphere changed to be more cheerful and colorful. “The children are very happy with the new atmosphere in the classroom. They are more enthusiastic about learning,” said one of the teachers at PAUD Nusa Indah.
This program is also part of the implementation of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) policy, which provides opportunities for students to apply their knowledge directly in the community, while honing their social sensitivity and professional skills in the real world.
The Rector of Esa Unggul University, Dr. Ir. Arief Kusuma Among Praja, ST, MBA, IPU, ASEAN Eng, expressed his appreciation for this activity and emphasized the importance of universities’ real contribution to society. “We are proud of the initiative taken by the lecturers and students of the Faculty of Design and Creative Industries. This is the essence of higher education: creating positive impacts, especially for the next generation. Creativity must be instilled from an early age, and an attractive learning space can be a good start,” said the Rector.
With this PKM activity, it is hoped that an inspiring and educational classroom atmosphere can help foster the spirit of learning and creativity of children from an early age.
