Esaunggul.ac.id, At the beginning of the year, Esa Unggul University through the Department of International Relations held an activity entitled “Nobar of the Minister of Foreign Affairs’ Annual Press Statement 2024 and Polugri Talk with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs” in Room A 811, Esa Unggul University, Monday, January 8, 2024.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which collaborates with 11 universities in 10 cities, seeks to invite students to participate in understanding and observing how the conditions and achievements of Indonesian Foreign Policy in the global arena over the past ten years.

This event is an effort to disseminate information on Indonesia’s foreign policy to stakeholders and the Indonesian people at large. This activity is also a form of accountability, transparency and accountability of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the main tasks that have been carried out. It is hoped that the PPTM2024 Nobar event and Polugri Talk can provide new insights to the academic community regarding economic, social, political and community conditions as well as diplomatic steps taken by Indonesia based on current issues and challenges in the global arena.

With the theme “Advancing Free and Active Foreign Policy: A Ten Year Journey”, PPTM 2024 presented the achievements of Indonesian diplomacy and various collaborations in the field of diplomacy and foreign relations since 2014. “For almost 10 years, Indonesia’s foreign policy has been consistently implemented based on the principle of free and active, oriented towards national interests and continues to contribute to world peace, in accordance with the mandate of the Constitution,” Retno said.

This activity presented the Director General of Protocol and Consular Affairs, Ambassador Andy Rachmianto as a guest speaker who presented material on actual issues delivered by the Minister of Foreign Affairs at PPTM 2024 live from the Asia-Africa Conference Museum Building in Bandung.

The Nobar event which was opened by the Vice Rector of Esa Unggul University, Dr. Rilla Gantino, was also attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Law of Esa Unggul University, Dr. Freddy Harris as the Respondent and the Head of the Public Relations Bureau of Esa Unggul University as moderator Dr. Budi Satrio as well as students and academicians of Esa Unggul University. The event was attended by more than 350 students who enthusiastically discussed about PPTM, especially about Indonesian Protection Diplomacy.

Vice Rector for Cooperation and Development Dr. Rilla Gantino, SE, Ak, MM, on her occasion expressed her gratitude for the implementation of the event with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she hopes that Esa Unggul students can gain knowledge and add new insights.

The Director General of Protocol and Consular Affairs underlined the achievements of Protection Diplomacy over the past 9 years in which the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has succeeded in resolving 218,313 cases of Indonesian citizens abroad such as evacuation of Indonesian citizens from conflict areas, handling Trafficking in Persons (TPPO), settlement of immigration and employment cases, and various other cases. This can be achieved thanks to the paradigm shift: that the Representative of the Republic of Indonesia is an Indonesian House, Diplomats are servants of Indonesian citizens, as well as the development of Indonesian citizen protection system at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Representative of the Republic of Indonesia. “The protection of Indonesian citizens has become the DNA of all Indonesian diplomats,” said the former Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the Kingdom of Jordan.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also made a number of innovations and breakthroughs including the construction of the Indonesian Seafarer Corner, the preparation of Bilateral MoUs including the One Channel System with Malaysia and Saudi Arabia, cooperation at the regional and multilateral levels for handling transnational crimes, as well as digital innovations in the form of developing the Indonesian Citizen Care Portal, Safe Travel and SMS Blast.

After the PPTM, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also facilitated an afternoon tea meeting between Ambassadors of Southeast Asian, North African, and Sub-Saharan African countries and Universitas Padjadjaran. The meeting explored opportunities for cooperation in education and research. Some of the topics discussed included education infrastructure investment, vocational education, and scholarships for citizens of partner countries in the region.

Furthermore, through the program Nonton Bareng PPTM 2024 and Bincang Polugri Bersama Kemlu, the national public through the eyes of students can see, feel and appreciate the achievements of Indonesia’s diplomacy and foreign policy performance. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recognizes the importance of students as agents of change in foreign policy. Students are national assets that have great potential in fighting for foreign policy issues. Students are often a strong voice and agent of change in public diplomacy. As one of the stakeholders from the millennial generation, students have the potential and capacity to influence public opinion, both at home and abroad, regarding political policies and other important issues.

In addition to being held at Esa Unggul University Jakarta, “Nonton Bareng PPTM 2024” and “Bincang Polugri Bersama Kemlu” were also held at Universitas Indonesia, Universitas Andalas, Universitas Pasundan, Universitas Diponegoro, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, Universitas Airlangga, Universitas Hasanuddin, Universitas Mulawarman and Universitas Warmadewa. In each University, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs presents Echelon One level officials as the main speakers as well as the local academic community.

The event was closed with a group photo with all invited guests and Esa Unggul students who attended the event.
