Esaunggul.ac.id – Universitas Esa Unggul held a Public Health Profession Seminar entitled “Increasing Prevalence of Non-Communicable Diseases Due to Unhealthy Lifestyle”. The event took place on Wednesday, January 8, 2024, from 08.00 to 14.00 WIB in Room 811 of the Jakarta Campus, attended by students, lecturers, and health practitioners.

The event was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences (FIKES), Dr. Aprilita Rina Yanti Eff, M.Biomed., Apt., followed by remarks from the Head of the Public Health Study Program, Putri Handayani, SKM, M.KKK, then followed by remarks from the lecturer of the Health Current Issues Course, Dr. Dra. Tjipto Rini, M.Kes., and the Chief Executive, Alfiyan Ramadhan.

The seminar was hosted by two students of Public Health Study Program and moderated by Dr. Ade Heryana, S.St., MKM., lecturer of Public Health Study Program of Universitas Esa Unggul.

Three expert speakers addressed the seminar:

  1. Prof. Dr. Ede Surya Darmawan, SKM, MDM, Professor of the Faculty of Public Health, University of Indonesia, presented the topic “Increasing NCDs as a Challenge in Achieving Indonesia’s Health Development.”
  2. Dr. CSP Wekadigunawan, MPH, Ph.D., Chairman of the Senate of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Esa Unggul University, discussed “Non-Communicable Disease Control.”
  3. Dr. Siti Nadia Tarmizi, M.Epid., Director of P2PTM at the Ministry of Health, explained “Increasing Prevalence of Non-Communicable Diseases Due to Unhealthy Lifestyle.”

The Moderator and Three Resource Persons of Public Health Profession SeminarThe seminar material highlighted the main issue, namely the increase in non-communicable diseases (NCDs) as a health challenge due to unhealthy lifestyles. The three speakers emphasized the importance of multi-sector collaboration in controlling NCDs and the need to increase public awareness of healthy lifestyles.

In addition to the delivery of material, the event was complemented by interactive ice-breaking sessions and question and answer sessions between participants and speakers. Participants were enthusiastic in raising questions that enriched the discussion.

The Rector of Universitas Esa Unggul, Dr. Ir. Arief Kusuma A.P., ST, MBA, IPU, ASEAN Eng, expressed his response and appreciation for the organization of this seminar. “This event is very relevant to answer the growing public health challenges. Universitas Esa Unggul is committed to making a real contribution in the health sector through academic activities such as this seminar. I hope that the discussion held today can provide new insights and encourage concrete steps in dealing with the issue of non-communicable diseases,” he said.

This seminar was also supported by Arizona State University as a strategic partner of Esa Unggul University. Arizona State University’s role in this event was realized through academic collaboration and material support related to the management of non-communicable diseases at the global level. This collaboration is part of an effort to broaden the perspective of Esa Unggul University students and academics in understanding public health issues in Indonesia and the world.

The seminar ended with the presentation of certificates to the moderator and speakers as an appreciation for their contributions. With global collaboration with Arizona State University and support from various parties, this seminar is expected to have a positive impact in increasing awareness and efforts to deal with non-communicable diseases in Indonesia.
