StrokeCare

Esaunggul.ac.id, Stroke is the leading cause of disability and the second leading cause of death worldwide. Most stroke patients experience muscle weakness, difficulty speaking, and visual impairment, requiring assistance in daily activities. This is the background for the StrokeCare app to prevent complications and improve the quality of life of stroke patients.

StrokeCare

The StrokeCare application was developed based on research regarding self-care, daily activities and recovery of stroke patients. After being tested and refined by the relevant team, this application was tested on patients at risk of stroke and stroke patients and their families at Puskesmas Tambora, North Duri Village, South Duri Village and Jembatan Lima Village from September 26 – October 23, 2024.

Respondents were selected based on their two-way communication skills and willingness to be respondents. They followed the instructions for using the application and completed the evaluation form. The trial results were then analyzed. This research has obtained ethical permission (No. KEPK/UMP/67/VIII/2024).StrokeCare

The StrokeCare application was developed by adopting a clinical pathway model with a Decision Support System (DSS), which is compatible with Windows, Linux, or MacOs operating systems. This application allows patients and their families to perform speech exercises and muscle strength exercises independently according to the patient’s health condition.

In addition, the app provides an overview of exercise results and recommendations for further action. The trial results showed that 80-90% of respondents found the app easy to use, informative, and motivating to perform exercises independently. Continued use of this app has the potential to accelerate recovery, reduce the risk of further complications, and increase patient independence in daily activities.

The StrokeCare app has the potential to help stroke patients recover by enabling self-directed exercise and providing ongoing support. This application is expected to improve the overall quality of life of stroke patients and is recommended for further testing on a wider scale. This application creation program is one of the efforts made by FIKES Universitas Esa Unggul to benefit the community.

Faculty of Health Sciences lecturer, Mira Asmirajanti, revealed that the application of the StrokeCare application is very important in efforts to prevent complications of stroke disease.

“This application not only provides easily accessible information about stroke, but also helps increase public awareness of the importance of early detection and proper treatment. I hope StrokeCare can reach more users, provide clear education, and encourage individuals to be more proactive in maintaining their health. With the support of technology, we can create a society that is more aware of the risk of stroke and able to take effective preventive measures,” he said.

Due to its effectiveness, Kemenristekdikti provided a grant to Universitas Esa Unggul to manage and improve the quality of the StrokeCare application.

“We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the Directorate of Research, Technology and Community Service (DRTPM) of the Ministry of Education and Culture for funding the prototype output cost assistance program for the 2024 budget year,” said Mira.
