Night Market as a City Entertainment and Shopping Facility (Case Study: Night Market “Puri Walk” and “CNI” on Jalan Puri Molek, Kelurahan Kembangan Selatan, Kecamatan Kembangan, West Jakarta)

Description:

This research is to evaluate the form of suitable night market in accordance with the expectations of the community, traders and managers of the night market, so as not to clash with the existing rules. Theoretically, this study was conducted to criticize government policies related to the provision of trade facilities in the Administrative City of West Jakarta. This research used a qualitative approach with an instrumental case study method. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with the subject who are on the two night market in Jalan Molek Puri, the night market “Puri Walk” and the night market “CNI”, as well as observation, and also by collecting secondary data. From the analysis it is found that in addition to its location, which had always been the location of residents to gather and interact, the existence of the night market in Jalan Puri Molek also cannot be separated from the power of the community, namely the strength of traders with ethnicity, patron clients, the situation of bargaining value and common fate and interests, interests of visitors with entertainment factors, proximity and media interactions, as well as opportunities from supporters with power factors, group existence and income. Both night markets can survive because the community within them has a stronger position than the West Jakarta Administrative City Government which is more focused on building modern shopping centers, hence public facility for poor city people such as night markets were neglected.
