Esaunggul.ac.id, Universitas Esa Unggul organised an MGBK seminar entitled ‘The Role of BK Teachers in Improving Students’ Mental Health’. The event took place on Monday, 16 December 2024, at the Tangerang Campus. This seminar was part of the activities of the Counselling Guidance Group Assembly (MGBK) which was attended by educators, psychologists, and educational practitioners.
The MGBK seminar took place from 09.00 to 13.00 WIB and invited Ciputra Hospital Psychologist and Esa Unggul University Psychology Lecturer, Mikaela Berliana Alitani, S.Psi, M.Psi, as the main speaker.
Mikaela discussed various important topics related to student mental health, which are increasingly relevant in the midst of today’s educational challenges. In her presentation, she revealed that the role of Guidance Counselling Teachers (BK) is crucial in maintaining students’ mental health. She explained the various aspects that affect mental health, including the vulnerabilities that students of different generations, especially Gen Z, can face.
Some of the material discussed by Mikaela included the important role of counselling teachers as educators, mediators, and solution providers in helping students maintain their mental well-being. She also talked about the challenges faced by Gen Z in maintaining mental health amidst social and academic pressures, as well as the factors that can cause children’s mental health to decline, including the influence of parenting patterns.
In addition, the seminar also discussed concrete steps that counselling teachers can take to help students, such as education about the importance of mental health, appropriate intervention when problems occur, and collaboration between various parties, including parents and medical personnel.

The Chairperson of MGBK, Nana Mardiana, S.Pd, in her speech expressed her appreciation and positive response to this event. She hoped that activities like this could improve the understanding and skills of counselling teachers in dealing with students’ mental health problems. ‘This seminar is a very good step to develop the quality of our work as counselling teachers. We hope that in the future, the development of MGBK will be better and more useful events like this can be held,’ he said.
This MGBK seminar is expected to provide new insights for participants, especially counselling teachers, in carrying out their role as a liaison between students and the outside world to ensure that they can grow and develop mentally healthy and ready to face the challenges of life.
