Esaunggul.ac.id, Esa Unggul University Visual Communication Design (DKV) Study Program successfully held a Harmonia Exhibition entitled “The Beauty of the Wasted” at the National Library, Jakarta, from 24 to 27 April 2025. The exhibition featured 2D, 3D, and Video Campaign Nirmana works as a form of student exploration of form, space, and sustainability issues.
Carrying the spirit of collaboration between creativity and environmental awareness, each work on display is proof that waste is not the end of the design cycle, but the beginning of a new innovation. DKV students carefully assemble unused materials into visual artworks that have strong messages and high aesthetics.

The Dean of the Faculty of Design and Creative Industries, Dr. Indra Gunara Rochyat, S.Sn., MA, M.Ds., attended the event along with the Vice Dean, Dr. Muhammad Fauzi, S.Des., M.Ds., to provide direct support to the students. Their presence symbolizes the faculty’s commitment in encouraging students to continue working and presenting impactful designs.
Not only that, Ratih Pertiwi, S.Ikom, M.Ds., a DKV lecturer at Esa Unggul University who accompanied the activity, was also actively involved in the curation process and implementation of this exhibition. She said that this activity is an important space for students to test their creative ideas in a real public space.
“This exhibition not only shows the students’ technical ability in design, but also their courage in voicing important issues through the visual medium,” said Ratih.
The Rector of Esa Unggul University, Dr. Ir. Arief Kusuma A.P., ST, MBA, IPU, ASEAN Eng, also gave his appreciation for the implementation of this exhibition. According to him, Harmonia Exhibition reflects the values promoted by the university in producing graduates who are innovative and care about global issues.
“I am very proud of the works of DKV students displayed. They managed to turn waste into works of art that are not only visually beautiful, but also meaningful and educate the public. This is in line with our mission in producing a creative generation that is able to answer future challenges,” said the Rector.
One of the exhibiting students, Sulis, said that the Harmonia Exhibition provided real experience in creating works that are not only aesthetic, but also have social value.
“
I feel challenged and proud to be able to showcase my work from used materials. The process was not easy, but this proves that design can have an impact and voice for change,” said Sulis.
Another student, Yusuf, also said he was happy to see the work of friends who are very diverse but still one in the spirit of sustainability.
“Through this exhibition, I realized that creativity has no limits, even from something that is considered useless, we can create beauty,” she said.
Over the four days of the event, Harmonia Exhibition received a positive response from visitors. The exhibition atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm, with many guests and participants enjoying and discussing the works displayed, ranging from 3D installations made from recycled materials to video campaigns that touch on environmental issues.
With this exhibition, the DKV Study Program of Esa Unggul University affirms its role as an educational institution that not only develops students’ artistic abilities, but also forms social awareness and sustainability in design practice.
