Students today are familiar with the term burnout or fatigue both physically and mentally. Burnout can be experienced by anyone who feels exhausted by something that is done too hard. Among them due to high academic pressure, expectations of oneself and others make a student feel exhausted. A person’s quality of life will be disrupted due to burnout, affecting mental health, and even academic achievement.

One of the main causes of burnout is the accumulation of tasks. Sometimes students have to work on various assignments, exams, and projects at the same time. Coupled with a lack of time to rest or socialize, this behavior encourages prolonged stress. If stress management is not done well, the stress will turn into burnout and ruin the spirit of learning.

Burnout usually does not come suddenly, sometimes there are some common symptoms in students. These symptoms include extreme physical fatigue, anxiety, sleep disturbances, and loss of motivation to learn. Students may feel like they are living life to survive in the midst of a monotonous daily routine, without any purpose and satisfaction. In the long run, this can be harmful to mental and emotional health.

Preventing burnout can be done with a holistic approach. Students can manage their time wisely, give themselves space to rest, and reduce overloading themselves with multiple tasks at once. Connecting with friends or seeking support from counselors can be the first step in reducing stress. Knowing the importance of mental health, campuses should also provide adequate facilities and resources to support it.

Ultimately, students feel that their well-being and health are more important than academic achievement. A maximum achievement can be achieved with supportive physical and mental health. It will create a satisfied self that feels fulfilled by what has been done. Burnout is not something to be taken lightly and needs to be dealt with wisely. These steps can be applied to ensure students can still achieve academic success without having to sacrifice mental health.
