Simultaneous Election as Indonesian Democratic Reform

Description:

The election of the President and Vice President after the election of the members of the People’s Legislative Assembly, the Regional Representatives Council, and the Regional People’s Legislative Assembly are not capable of transforming the social changes in the desired direction. The results of the election of the President and Vice President after the election of the Members of the People’s Legislative Assembly, the Regional Representatives Council and the Regional People’s Legislative Assembly shall not also reinforce the presidential system to be established under the Constitution. The mechanism of checks and balances, especially between the House of Representatives and the President and Vice President is not going well. The Presidential and Vice Presidential Candidates often create a momentary tactical coalition with political parties so as not to give birth to a long-term coalition that can lead to the simplification of political parties naturally. In practice, the coalition model built between political parties and / or with the presidential and vice-presidential pairs actually does not strengthen the presidential government system. The nomination of candidates for President and Vice President by a coalition of political parties does not necessarily form a permanent coalition of political parties or coalitions of political parties which will then simplify the party system. Based on the experience of constitutional practice, the election of the President and Vice President after the election of the Members of the People’s Legislative Assembly, the Regional Representative Council and the Regional People’s Legislative Assembly shall not give any reinforcement to the governmental system desired by the Constitution.
