Mechanical Properties of Friction Stir Welding (FSW) and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) on Weld Join Aluminum Series 5083

Description:

This study compared the results of welding aluminum plate series 5083 with thickness of 6 mm using Friction Stir Welding (FSW) with welding speed variation, that is 22, 29 and 38 mm / minute with conventional welding results of Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW). FSW welding is done by using a frais machine. The FSW and GTAW results use tensile, test and macro and microstructure tests. From identification The FSW welding is smaller than GTAW, thus causing higher FSW yield with GTAW. From the analysis of existing macro structures all FSW welding results include incomplete fusion deficiencies caused by less than perfect welding process. This holds GTAW tensile test results better than FSW.
