In an effort to strengthen students’ insights into strategic issues and cutting-edge technology, the Faculty of Engineering of Esa Unggul University, through the Regional and City Planning (PWK) Study Program, held a public lecture with the theme “Integrated Geospatial in Spatial Planning in the Middle of the Industrial Revolution 5.0”. This activity took place on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at 10.00-12.00 WIB in Room 406, Esa Unggul University, Jakarta Campus, and was held in a hybrid manner, allowing participants to participate directly or through online Zoom.
The event was opened by Ir. Roessfiansjah Rasjidin, M.T., Ph.D., as Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Esa Unggul University, who in his speech conveyed the importance of geospatial technology in the process of regional and spatial planning.
“Geospatial technology is now the main pillar in formulating adaptive development policies. In the era of Industrial Revolution 5.0, the ability to read and manage spatial data is a mandatory competency for regional and city planners,” said Ir. Roessfiansjah.

This public lecture presented Dr. Ir. RA Belinda Arumawati Margono, M.Sc., Principal Secretary of the Geospatial Information Agency (BIG), as the main speaker. In her presentation, she reviewed various implementations of geospatial data utilization in supporting spatial planning, one map policy, and geographic information system (GIS)-based regional monitoring.
“Geospatial is not just about maps, but about how we manage space intelligently and inclusively. Good planning requires the right data. Through geospatial technology, we can make more accurate, fast, and measurable decisions,” Dr. Belinda explained.
She also conveyed the challenges and opportunities in the digital era, where planning is not only based on documents, but also the integration of real-time data, artificial intelligence, to spatially processed big data.
The event was hosted by Dr. Drs. Suprajaka, M.T., a lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering, Esa Unggul University and an expert in the field of geospatial. With his expertise, Dr. Suprajaka directed the discussion to be more interactive and applicable, opening an active question and answer room from students who attended in person or online through Zoom.
The Rector of Esa Unggul University, Dr. Ir. Arief Kusuma Among Praja, ST., MBA., IPU, ASEAN Eng., expressed his support for this activity which is considered very relevant to the university’s mission to produce graduates who are superior and adaptive to global changes.
“Esa Unggul University continues to encourage the organization of public lectures and scientific forums that open students’ insights into global issues. Geospatial is not just a trend, but a strategic need in spatial governance. Through activities like this, we want to equip students with knowledge that is applicable and ready to use in the real world,” said the Rector.
This activity was welcomed enthusiastically by PWK students and Esa Unggul academic community from various campuses. The hybrid format used allows wider participation, both from students who attend directly on campus and those who follow online from various regions through the Zoom platform.
In addition to being an academic event, this public lecture also strengthens networks with national institutions such as BIG, and shows Esa Unggul University’s commitment to supporting the MBKM (Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka) program, research collaboration, and digital technology-based education.
With activities like this, Esa Unggul University emphasizes its role as a campus with a global outlook, adaptive to changing times, and ready to face the challenges of the Industrial Revolution 5.0 through the integration of science and technology.
